Vintage Kompass 1 side table designed by Alan Turville for Hille 1968. Made from laminated melamine, resin bonded bagasse and chromed steel. Bagasse is the waste product that is left over from sugar cane after extraction, Bagasse Products Co Ltd was a company that was set up in 1964 by Tate and Lyle and Hille. They developed the new easily mould-able material they called Bagelle where resin and other materials are bonded. A great piece with an interesting story behind its material and production techniques.
